Of cold weather foods and comics

November 23, 2008

Cold weather delights: red bean soup with mochi and oatmeal with brown sugar.

I have also been drinking a lot of tea.

Writing/drawing a comic is more difficult than I thought would be. It’s meticulous work, and so far I’m only three pages in, though several weeks have passed since I’ve started. Doing half a page makes me feel a bit dizzy and has me constantly reaching out for more tea.

Slipper tails

Excuse me for the unclean floor. I just wanted to show off one of the little tails I discovered on my pair of slippers. I had not noticed them until very recently.

su su studio

November 15, 2008

Today, r. chinchilla and I went to the studio finally to record some music (on electric guitar) together. While r. chinchilla has been there several times, it was the first time for me, though we’ve been planning the excursion together for ages. I have always been very keen on music and making music, and I did record some (very terrible) songs as a teenager, but I always felt daunted by all the music making software, guitar pedals, and so on. It’s a good thing r. chinchilla came along because he has experience and can plug things in for me while I’m gleefully trying out the drums for the first time.

Perhaps we’re afraid of being too gimmicky – we already have one home-recorded song about cheesecakes under our belts – or perhaps we needed a change, but we tried to be highly serious musicians today. We did well. Neither one of us smiled the whole time we were in the studio since we were trying our very best to be extremely serious.

Moreover, I’ve discovered recently that everything I do on the electric guitar sounds like a post-rock song to me. This discovery remained true in the studio today. I don’t really like post-rock (music often labeled as post-rock, anyway), but one day I will move on from my unintended post-rock phase.

lambs and pom poms

November 10, 2008

My wallet is almost back. Now, perhaps I can buy something that I want instead of buying a new wallet. Shopping is not one of my favorite things to do, but it seems like a lot of my life recently has been shopping, and I am starting to accept it. The sad drawback to this is that now I want more things.

I remember that when autumn/winter hit last year, I kept seeing girls wearing hooded zip-up jackets made of very furry material, which reminded me much of sheep. These jackets were also decorated with giant pom-pom things. The combination of these two things made me feel a bit queasy. Now, however, that autumn/winter has hit again, I am considering getting a furry jacket with pom poms on them. They’re still around, although not as with much force this time around. In wearing such a jacket, I think I’ll feel less like a sleepy and bleary-eyed human and more like a little lamb (pre-sheering). This new way of looking at these jackets makes me want one now.

I LOST MY WALLET.

However, this does mean I get to buy a new wallet. It’s a practical and everyday item, so I don’t feel as guilty.
