This is my monster pet, Sebastien (spelled with an ‘e’ and not an ‘a’ at the end). He’s the most wonderful pet but unfortunately, is a mythical one, as I can’t have any pets at the moment.

So tomorrow is Moving Day to Baltimore, which is why I haven’t been updating this blog much lately. I should have finished packing way earlier, but I didn’t, so that means I’m missing out my friend’s glorious birthday party right now. I also really wanted to go to the Extreme Animals show tonight, but that’s not going to happen, either.

However, there will be updates a-plenty after my frantic packing (which will be mostly done tonight) becomes un-done. Expect some blog changes (new URL, maybe a new design), as well.

Received a most wonderful package in the mail from photo extraordinaire Olalla (of naked lunch): A handmade necklace, a Fix Me 7″ (for me to use when I’m convulsing/running around my room), a Kana Kapila 7″ (for me to hula hoop to), and a mix-tape.

During the times when I don’t want my face to be seen, it would be really nice if a big cloud of red lines swept over it.  I wouldn’t have to rely on hair so much.

I’ve been a fan for Paper Rad & co. for a few years — admiring their humor, silliness, and psychedelic colors.  I’ve always liked how Paper Rad, considered an art collective, memorializes and makes fun of 90s-era Internet & digital technology all in the realm of “art.”  So of course when I heard that Paper Rad’s Ben Jones has been extending a PR creation into a Cartoon Network show, Problem Solverz, I was pretty excited.

I saw some clips on YouTube.  I saw Episode 1.  My initial thoughts?  Really, really exciting visually but not that funny and kind of drawn-out, storytelling wise.   The viewers on YouTube hated it. Paper Rad’s Jacob Ciocci did his own research on 4Chan, and here is what he discovered:

“For those interested in debates between underground versus popular aesthetics, in creating works of art that can speak to multiple audiences at once, or in what gives art work validity, below are some interesting perspectives, spoken in the internet’s native language: ‘TROLL’.  I copied and pasted 2 troll quotes here, the conversation is now ‘lost forever’ in 4Chan heaven. . . .

‘Why base a whole show around an extreme art style that looks horrible and no one mainstream even knows is popular? I never even fucking heard of paper rad before and I know a ton of hipsters.’

‘Art is something you need to step into the right mindset to appreciate. That’s why people go to galleries or museums or indie cinemas to see it. When you’re eating dinner in your pajamas after a long day at work and watching kids shows, you’re not exactly in the most mentally receptive state for art. You just want fucking entertainment. People don’t watch CN looking for art. They just see it and think it looks ugly and change the channel.Paper rad belongs in galleries, and that’s fine, let it go be art there. If you decide to bring it to a wider audience who doesn’t understand it you have to be open to the criticisms that come with that. Art isn’t infallible just because it’s art.’“

Yup, some good points, and I don’t know what to think of them yet.  I probably won’t be coming to a conclusion any time soon (or ever in my lifetime).  There’s no time what with my waistline to attend to (pizza!  gotta eat more pizza!) and Episode 2 coming out on the Cartoon Network this Monday, April 11.

Whether you love or hate the show, I promise it’s definitely interesting and worth the watch.  And who knows, maybe Problem Solverz will turn into something as amazing as the Tim and Eric Show, Great Job!

Here is the full version of HAROLD the monster.  Inspired by HAROLD’s muscular prowess and fitness abilities, I rode my bike around today and perhaps am a tiny bit more in shape.  BEACH BODY HERE I COME.

Now I’m off to class, where I’ll try not to stare at the ceiling too much.

Discovered these amazing 1920s era Australian mugshots on the NPR blog this morning.  Very haunting & very beautiful.  I’ll be practicing mugshot-inspired poses all day today, as a result.

Here is a preview* of a monster drawing, one that will be featured in a monsters themed art show next month (more details on that later).

Monsters are so very glorious, and I wish that this monster — who I’ve named HAROLD, in all caps — really existed; that is, as long as he wouldn’t try to gobble me down. In fact, I think he would be very useful to this society. Afterall, HAROLD has very large arm muscles, and I imagine he would be well-suited for personal training and body building. Perhaps he could give me a few pointers on achieving some of my life goals, like building up the strength to do a handstand and doing one whole pull-up.
